Pastors And Leadership

Picture

Andy Reyes was born on April 16, 1985. He is the youngest of nine children. Having been raised in a church going home Andy did not come to faith in Jesus Christ until the age of twelve: “For some reason I had a desire to completely repudiate the Christian life. And so, I did not want to believe in Jesus Christ for the salvation of my soul since I understood what faith in Christ means for life.” At twelve years old Pastor Andy was converted as he confessed that he was a sinner in need of the Savior: “If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved” (Rom. 10:9). Pastor Andy obeyed the Lord in believer’s baptism by immersion on the admonition of his best friend and brother at nineteen years old.
In 2004 Pastor Andy began attending First Baptist Church of Elyria, OH. It was the first time he ever heard preaching that was easy to follow and directly from the text of the Bible: “Dr. Bradley taught from Galatians 3 that Wednesday night. I remember thinking to myself on that particular evening, as I sat in the back of the auditorium, ‘This guy knows what he is doing.’ For the first time in my life I met a pastor who knew the Bible, taught the Bible, and possessed the personal character God demands of any man who would lead his people. I was hooked that evening and joined the church as soon as I could.”
The following January Andy moved to Ankeny, IA where he enrolled at Faith Baptist Bible College (FBBC). His initial intention was to take one semester of Bible and move back to Ohio: “The first class I took was Bible doctrine survey, under Dr. Alan D. Cole, at 7:30am. From my very first week of class I decided that I needed to study the Bible full time for the rest of my life.”
Andy graduated from FBBC in 2011. The following year he moved to Ulster, PA where he served as the Assistant Pastor to Kurtis Brown at Grace Baptist Church. Having entered into the ministry with a pre-commitment to go to seminary, Pastor Andy choose to go to Detroit Baptist Theological Seminary (DBTS) in Allen Park, MI. It was during his seminary years he believes he matured the most in the study of God’s word: “My professors put me through the ringer. The men at DBTS are men of the highest-level pf personal as well as academic integrity. They will not bat one eyelash at asking an aspiring minister to leave their school if they believe he does not belong in vocational Christian ministry. They stretched me spiritually and mentally. I am forever grateful for their ministry.”
After completing 85 of his 96 credit hours of work at DBTS Pastor Andy received an invitation to candidate at a church in Kansas City, MO, where he would replace a retiring pastor. Those were tuff years as pastor and was elected by the congregation to become its next pastor and then he was asked to leave by the retiring pastor and deacons.
From that point on Andy and his wife Mandie decided to settle down in a church where they could serve and grow at. They found Olivet Baptist Church in Westwood, KS. They were received there with open arms.
In February of 2018 Andy was invited by the First Baptist Church of Perry, IA to preach as one of its potential candidates. After a number of visits and interviews with the congregation and deacons he was called to be the church’s next Senior Pastor on July 1, 2018. His first Sunday was July 15, 2018.
Pastor Andy has a fifty-year vision for FBC. His central goal is to win Perry, IA to faith in Christ. One day he hopes that FBC will have the attendance and finances necessary to run a Christian School that is free to children belonging to FBC members, and half price to regular attenders. Pastor Andy desires to leave a legacy of a gospel centered ministry marked by the expository preaching and teaching of the whole Bible: “One of the greatest honors I could ever dream of in ministry is not to build a great congregation. But that I would finish my ministry at FBC with a congregation that has produced its next pastor and promises to continue growing in its gospel influence generations to come.”

Come see what God is doing!
